We Love Math Stations! (& DEAR Time, Too!)

Hooray!  We can read, write and represent numbers.
Working with numbers is lots of fun, especially with Math Stations!
Here is what we did:
Grab a Handful Station:
Students grab a handful of cubes and count them by placing them on the Hundred Chart.
Extra Challenge:  After counting, compare your handful with a friend's.  Who had more?

Dot-to-Dot Station:
Complete the Dot-to-Dot to practice number order.
Extra Challenge:  Try starting at the highest number and working backwards!

Count the Room Station:
Students count the number of chairs, desks, windows, elephants, girls, boys, etc. in our classroom.
(PS:  I hope everyone answered "0" elephants!!!)

Counting Bags Station:
Students choose a bag of objects to count, and record their answer.
Extra Challenge:  Which bag had the most objects?  Which bag had the least?

Bingo Stampers Station:
Students draw a card and stamp dots to represent the number, using a Ten Frame.

Simon Says Station:
My personal favorite!
Students draw an action card and a number card.
They must do the action as many times as the number card indicates.
We had a lot of jumping jacks, toe touches, karate kicks, hula hoops, and ball bounces in our classroom!

DEAR Time Update:

Every day from 3:00-3:30 is DEAR time at our school.  Everyone in the building "Drops Everything and Reads" for thirty minutes each day.  As a class, we have already finished the novel Freckle Juice by Judy Blume and are two chapters deep into Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary.  The students  DEARly love DEAR time and have even begun to bring books from home to read aloud to their classmates!  Absolutely adorable!
